INTRODUCTION TO US

Nanninella is a traditional Neapolitan Pizzeria based in the heart of Brighton and Hove. Our customers can enjoy our delicious food whilst experiencing the Amalfi atmosphere.

Our classic Neapolitan Sourdough is handcrafted and proved for over 24 hours to create that light and airy pizza base that we all love. 

 Our Pizzas are inspired by the traditional foods of Campania. We have a variety of different high quality ingredients that have either come straight from Italy or locally sourced.

La Smorfia Napoletana 

BACKGROUND OF THE NAME

In Napoli we have a very old book called 'La Smorfia' in which dreams are analysed and converted into numbers to play during Tombola. Every number from 1-90 has a different meaning, some of which are quite funny and match the cheekiness of Neapolitan humour.

We chose 'Nanninella' because this is the name for number 26, our building number. This signifies Sant'Anna, Jesus' Grandmother. She is the symbol of family and the protector of pregnant women.

This resonated with us as we are a family run business and also at the time of the restaurant opening our owners were Pregnant with their daughter.

Vesuvio. Napoli

OUR ROOTS

Our owner, Sergio, grew up on his Nonno Anotonio's Farm in Napoli. His memories of his Nonna Maria Cristina cooking pizza and bread in their wood burning oven for the workers and the family inspired him to open up this restaurant. Many aspects of the family business in Napoli can be seen here at Nanninella.

The family now have a Craft Buffalo Mozzarella Company called 'Caseficio Terracciano' where the family tradition is being continued.

OUR OVEN

Our Traditional Italian Pizza Oven was handcrafted by Forni Medaglia, a family company that has over 50 years of experience in the creation of handmade wood and gas ovens. Their ovens and craftsmanship is approved by the 'Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana' (The True Neapolitan Pizza Association). 

We chose to use a gas oven at Nanninella as it is more sustainable, more hygienic, clean and much more practical. Gas ovens are becoming more and more popular in Napoli due to these factors.

The materials were shipped straight over from Napoli for the oven to be built on site to fit the restaurants shape and style perfectly.

We are proud to have them as friends of Nanninella.
